PAC Australia Member Feature: Madison Walker from Canberra Theatre Centre
Madison is the Technician at Canberra Theatre Centre, ACT. We asked Madison for some of her best work hacks, tips and tricks.
Q: What’s your best work hack?
Always keep a three-metre tape measure on you. It’s big enough for most things and you can tell a lot about someone by their reaction to being handed a tiny tape measure.
Q: What makes your venue special?
Our technical team make Canberra Theatre Centre special. Everyone is passionate about theatre and truly puts their love and care into each production. We are a tight-knit crew and try to make each touring company feel like they are a part of it.
Q: What made you want to become a tech?
I grew up going to shows with my parents, and watching ‘the making of’ a movie was my favourite part of a DVD. I’ve always loved theatre, then I found out being a tech is a genuine career with so many different jobs and I’ve never looked back.
Q: Any work rituals or habits?
My current work ritual is walking to work so I can get some sun and fresh air before being stuck in a black box all day.
